Jurisdiction Information

Offenders must register with the agency in which they will reside. If you live in the city limits you will register with the local police such as the Fargo Police Department or the West Fargo Police Department. If you reside outside the city limits then you will register with the Cass County Sheriff's Offices. If you work in Cass County and the business address does not fall in West Fargo or Fargo you will also register your work address with Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Offender Requirement Information

At the time of your initial registration you will be:

  • Fingerprinted.
  • Photographed.
  • DNA sample (swabbing of the inside of your mouth) is obtained if a DNA sample is not already on file.
  • State Required (BCI) form is filled out.

The State of North Dakota requires you to personally appear once a year in the office/jurisdiction to which you reside to update information, as well as submit to a new picture.  You will be notified through the mail and by the State of North Dakota when that is to occur.

We will periodically stop by your residence or place of employment, unannounced, to confirm that you are still living or working at the locations you provided at your registration.

As a registered offender YOU are responsible for keeping your paperwork with the Cass County Sheriff's Office up to date.  Failure to properly keep your paperwork updated, such as residence, work and schooling, may result in additional charges such as failure to register.  See page 11 and 12 of NDCC 12.1-32-15, the ND Offender Registration Manual, for additional information.

Unfortunately, the Cass County Sheriff's Office cannot be everywhere 24 hours a day which is why we hope the communities in Cass County help us by becoming our eyes and ears. If you should see or hear that an offender is living in your area and is not accounted for on the searchable list, please contact us.

Public Information

The North Dakota Attorney General provides a Offender Registration Form showing the sex offender guidelines as well as to what information is required. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has prepared a Offender Registration Procedures Manual. This manual is a great resource for any questions on the sex offender registration requirements, procedures, or program.

The requirements established by North Dakota for Offenders can be found at NDCC 12.1-32-15.
