ORIGINAL (4-11-25): Our first major project is our County Road 10 project regrade and bridge replacement.
This is happening out in Tower City in between Tower City and Buffalo on County Road 10.
This will be a complete regrade. We'll be widening the road top from a 24-foot to a 36-foot top, improving the base with cement treated base, all new culverts, flatter slopes, wider ditch bottoms and better drainage.
Within the Tower City limits, we'll be widening the road top from a 24-foot top to a 30-foot top, adding 6-foot sidewalks on the north side of the road, curb and gutter and some buried storm or sewer to help drainage.
We'll be replacing the bridge over the Maple River with a 109-foot bridge. The new bridge is more than double the existing box culvert size and this is due to us raising the road to the east of the structure. This portion of road has recently, and quite often, water has gone over the road during flood times. And so, we've raised that road about a foot and a half to keep the road out of the water.
Other things to keep in mind, through Tower City and around the new bridge will be paved this year, but due to budget constraints the remainder of the road will be gravel over the winter and will be paved in 2026.
However, the gravel road will get a chloride treatment to prevent dust over the winter. This road is actually already closed due to the bridge starting early and a detour is in place. There will also be an additional smaller detour around the city of Tower City once the road portion of the project starts.
Completion of this project, the in-town section is planned to be done before school starts in the fall and then outside of Tower City should be completed in late September.

ORIGINAL (4-11-25): Our next project is on County Road 26 between State 18 and County Road 5 North, or the Galesburg Road. This is a mill and asphalt overlay project. We will be milling up the center 26-foot wide path at an inch and a half deep. And then we will fill that void with asphalt 26-foot wide by inch and a half deep. And then we'll go over the entire road 36-foot wide and inch and a half deep. Other notes on this project. We'll also be improving the railroad crossing between the two County Road fives. This is a really rough section of tracks and we're working with BNSF to get this replaced. However, because of this, the road will need to be closed for some time while the railroad crossing is being replaced. This project is also being funded with federal funds. Project completion. The duration should be around 3 weeks to complete and possibly another week or two for road closures for the railroad crossings, but we are unsure of the start time on this project.
PROJECT UPDATE (8-18-25)

- Still need to do final striping
PROJECT UPDATE (7-9-25)
- Preconstruction Meeting has been completed
- Project will start week of July 14th
- Milling will start first
ORIGINAL: Another project on County Road 26 is a mill and asphalt overlay. Similar to the other project on County Road 26, this will be milling up the center of 26 an inch and a half deep and we'll fill that void with the inch and a half as the other project and also cap the entire road with an additional inch and a half. Something different we're trying with this project is we'll be adding fibers into the asphalt. This is a newer type of procedure that we haven't done before and we'll be looking to see if these fibers help with cracking in the future and if this works well, we'll plan to incorporate it into more roads in the future.
Other notes. This project runs from State Highway 32 all the way to State Highway 38. It is a joint project between Cass County and Barnes County. This project is being funded with state grant funds that were awarded to Barnes County and Cass County. This project duration should be around 3 weeks. We are unsure of the start time currently on this project.

Completion of this project should be around 3 weeks. We are also unsure of the start time on this project. ORIGINAL (4-11-25): We have another project on County Road 34 up by Arthur. This will be a grading, subgrade repair and surfacing project. We did a project similar to this last year from I-29 to the Elm River on County Road 34 and this will just be an extension of that project continuing West. We will do the gravel similar to what we did last year on 34. The finished gravel road top will be 28-foot wide. We're also doing the improved cement base with the cement powder mixture into the clay. All new culverts, flatter slopes, wider ditch bottoms, better drainage, and in town we'll be widening the road top from a 24-foot top to a 28-foot top. This section will also have the improved cement base and we'll also be incorporating some storm sewer on the north side of the road to help with drainage. This road will be closed to through traffic during construction. Completion of this project should be around six weeks, and we are unsure of the start time currently on this one.
PROJECT UPDATE (8-18-25)
- This project has been completed
- Other notes
- The reason we are doing this to these specific roads is that 5-10 years ago we preformed a crack and seat on the existing concrete and paved asphalt over the top of the cracked concrete
We have a slightly different project on County Road 10, 16 and 81. This is a culvert lining project. This process includes lining existing centerline culverts underneath our County Road with a fiberglass liner. This process is done as to not have to open cut the road and incur extra costs. These culvert liners will last in excess of 50 years. The reason we are doing it to these specific roads is that these roads have been cracked. The existing concrete was crack and seeded to make a really good base and then paved over. So we don't want to have to rip up that good road to replace these culverts. And because of that, there will be no traffic impacts on these projects. Completion of this project should be around 2 weeks, and we are also unsure of the start time on this one.

This existing structure has seen some better days and we're looking to replace it with a 14-foot by 5-foot reinforced box culvert. County forces will be completing the structure to save costs. We’ll also be doing the same with the other 4 structures we'll be touching on. Project duration should be around 3 weeks. Start time will be around middle to end of May.
