Tim Flakoll was elected to a four-year term on the Cass County Commission in 2024. He is Vice-Chair of the commission.  His portfolios include the Sheriff's Department, Jail & Juvenile Center, NDSU Extension, and the Coroner's Office.  Current committee assignments include the Metro Flood Diversion Lands, Flood Buyout Program Committee, and the Cass Clay Food Commission.

Commissioner Flakoll has more than 330 board and organization years of experience and has held more than 45 offices with various community, state, regional and national organizations. His experience includes 18 years in the North Dakota State Senate where he chaired the Agriculture and Education committees for a combined 14 years and served as President Pro Tempore of the Senate.

Commissioner Flakoll is an alum of North Dakota State University, Harvard University, the University of Oxford and M.I.T. Tim worked in higher education at NDSU and Tri-College University for a combined 30 years. He is one of the founders of FM RedHawks baseball where his duties included Vice-President and General Manager. During his time as General Manager, the team sold out 43% of their games and ran at 92% capacity and was named Team of the Decade by Baseball America.

Commissioner Flakoll grew up on a farm/ranch near Forbes, ND and he is one of the owners and helps manage the family farm/ranch.

His recent awards include the NDSU Doctor of Service Award and the national Phi Kappa Phi Distinguished Service Award. He was named Provost Emeritus in 2024.
