Cass County is approximately 1,700 square miles with a population of 156,157 (according to the 2012 Census Bureau). Cass County provides law enforcement services to all of Cass County with the exception of the City of Fargo and the City of West Fargo, as they have municipal police departments. Three communities, Casselton, Horace and Kindred, contract with the Cass County Sheriff's Office for increased law enforcement services.
The Field Services Division, commanded by Captain Mitch Burris, is comprised of the Patrol Unit and the Investigations Unit.
The Patrol Unit consists of 19 deputies and one civilian employee:

The Patrol Unit also is home for a number of specialty units to include Truck Regulatory, Motorcycle Patrol, Canine and Bicycle Patrol.
The Investigation Unit is comprised of five detectives. One of those detectives is assigned to the Cass County Jail and one is assigned to the ND Bureau of Criminal Investigation Drug Task Force.
