CASS COUNTY, N.D. (July 7, 2014) – In recent months, but with more frequency in recent days, local law enforcement agencies have been responding to reports of a phone scams in which the caller claims to be a law enforcement officer. The caller states that a warrant has been issued for the individual and the individual will be arrested if a fine is not paid. In some cases, the calls appear to be generated from legitimate phone numbers, but are rather utilizing technology to spoof the caller ID system.
If a citizen is the recipient of a suspicious phone call, as described, they are cautioned to not provide personal information such as social security, bank account or credit card numbers. Citizens should contact their local law enforcement agency to verify the legitimacy of the phone call and to file a report if necessary.
