Cass County Announces Drain 27 Improvement Project

Post Date:03/14/2025 10:30 am

Cass County is set to begin the Drain 27 Improvement Project, bringing essential upgrades to the drainage infrastructure on the east side of Horace. This project will enhance flood management capacity and support ongoing urban growth while ensuring no new special assessments for residents.

Originally constructed in 1971, Drain 27 will undergo modernization to meet current drainage standards. Key improvements include:

  • Upgraded Road Crossings & Culverts – New reinforced box culverts will be installed at 64th Ave S and 88th Ave S, improving water flow and preparing for future major roadway development.
  • Increased Capacity for Flood Management – The drain’s capacity will be expanded to handle greater water flow from the rapidly developing urban area.

The project spans a three-mile stretch from 64th Ave S to 100th Ave S, beginning within Fargo city limits and extending through Stanley Township. Drain 27 discharges into the Rose Coulee and ultimately into the Red River.

This initiative is fully funded by the Southeast Cass Water Resource District, ensuring that no new special assessments will be applied to property owners.
