Companion pet sheltering will be activated only for areas where a residential evacuation has been ordered. Cass County will not provide pet shelter services for domesticated animals other than those from areas within Cass County where evacuation has been ordered by the Cass County Commission or the Governor of North Dakota.
Animals may be denied entry based on health and safety or other considerations. The pet shelter will only accept domesticated animals, such as a dog, cat, bird, rabbit, rodent or turtle that is traditionally kept in the home for pleasure rather than for commercial purposes and that can travel in commercial carriers and be housed in temporary facilities. Domesticated animals do not include reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects/arachnids, farm animals (including horses), and animals kept for racing purposes. (FEMA DAP523.19)
It is recommended that pet owners bring their own animal food and supplies, current medicines required, and recorded medical history including a written confirmation of shots etc. with the animal to the pet shelter location.
The locations and hours of operation of pet shelters will be announced as soon as pet shelters are opened.
