The office of County Treasurer was created by the state constitution. Treasurers take office in May, are elected for four-year terms on a non-partisan ballot during November elections, and their salary is set by state statute and based on the population of the county. The full duties are listed in the North Dakota Century Code. They include receiving all incoming money, balancing accounts, collect fees and fines, monthly disbursements to county entities, invest funds to receive the best return, and provide information to
lending agencies. Cass County has appointed the
Treasurers office the additional duties of administering
Marriage Licenses.
Some of the questions this office answers relate to:
Tax season begins January 1st when taxes become due. A 5% discount allowed on real estate and mobile home taxes if paid in full on or before February 15th. Discount does not apply to specials.
Taxes may be paid in installments of not less than 10% of tax. First installment of current real estate taxes due by March 1st. 2nd installment due by October 15th. Taxes collected January 1, are for the previous calendar year.
